Setting campaign contribution limits is a thousand steps in the right direction to ensure that politicians strive to serve "we the people" rather than those who have the largest bank accounts. Kudos to the MV City Council for passing this measure.
"Councilwomen Pat Showalter and Lisa Matichak both opposed the campaign rules, calling them unnecessary in a city where election spending has been modest and candidates have largely adhered to optional spending limits."
I wonder how these fine Councilwomen feel about "Citizens United v. FEC," a Supreme Court decision handed down in 2010 which now ensures that at a federal level, we have the best politicians that corporate money can buy.
" In his dissenting opinion, Associate Justice John Paul Stevens declared that the court's ruling represented "a rejection of the common sense of the American people, who have recognized a need to prevent corporations from undermining self government." " - Web Link
