California voters want diverse leaders, more immigrant voting rights, poll finds

A majority of California voters are concerned that elected leaders reflect the diversity of the state's population, according to a new poll by the University of California, Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies.

I don't think any of these are good ideas. What I would support is creating an advisory body for the high-school district, made up of existing student-body leaders, who could comment on matters referred to them by the board.

@ivg. There are already two 'representative' student school board members at MVLA. They are elected by their high schools. They are Entirely advisory! I have never seen their comments or 'advice' make a difference in any MVLA school board vote [they either do not speak up - or are ignored]

I would prefer to keep all voting as per the citizenship rule. I do know the local school boards could use AREA ELECTIONS to help historically under-represented racial minorities gain access 'to a steady stream' of elected representatives that support their particular concerns. MVLA just elected one Hispanic board member - after a lack of such during the first two decades of the 21st century.

The CVRA (California Voting Rights Act) would be an appropriate legal pry bar for this purpose. (Might help our City Council also).
