Students of the month: March

Original post made by extra!credit, Mountain View Voice Blogger, on Mar 10, 2010

Local high school students Andrew Carp and Kristen Belinsky were honored by trustees at the Mountain View-Los Altos district board meeting Monday evening as students of the month for March.

Carp, a senior at Los Altos High School, was recognized for his strong academic record, commitment to athletics and natural leadership on campus. In addition to taking on a rigorous course load, Carp is involved in the school's environmental club, and started an incentive program for students who bike to campus. He has played basketball, and run cross country and track throughout his high school career. Carp is also a musician, participating in orchestra and Jazz Band at school. Last summer he traveled to Europe where he performed piano--he has played the instrument for seven years.

Belinksy is a junior at Mountain View High School, and is known around school for her athletic prowess. She has played varsity soccer for three years, and will lead the team in her senior year as captain. She also participates in track and cross country. In the classroom Belinsky is taking several AP classes. She has excelled at Spanish and is also learning French. She has also had the opportunity to practice her language skills abroad. Belinsky volunteered with the Amigos de Las Americas program last summer, through which she lived with a host family in Panama while volunteering in the local community.
