Bike use climbs in Mountain View

Original post made on Oct 4, 2012

Bicycle advocates are buzzing about new census data which shows that bicycling to work is on the rise in Mountain View — so much so that it is now just about equal to that of Portland, Ore., the self-proclaimed "bike capital" of America.

Maybe the increase is the 100s of Google bikes racing around town. They seem to park and ride everywhere sine the campus has spread.

The statistic is the number of Mountain View residents who bike from home to work.

Every school day you can count 60 or more bikes at the bike racks at Huff Elem. I think that is about 10%..

At least one Los Altos Elementary school has a program where the bike to school kids get counted electronically, and get incentives to bike to school.

Actually, just found the source... but can't be sure what the actual data or its reliability is...
Web Link

I can only infer that they are using the "means of transportation" for those that did not answer any vehicle info... still that's only about 5% of all survey answers.
It would be awesome to find the correlation to time to work. Maybe the change is because Googlers are moving to MV and biking to work?
