Three members of a Norteno gang from Mountain View have been sentenced in last year’s stabbing death of Mario Aguilar, an 18-year-old San Jose man, according to officials from the district attorney’s office. Three others members of the same gang are scheduled to be sentenced next month in connection with the same incident.

Jose Rodriguez, Timothy Segovia and Alberto Villarreal were sentenced Friday, Oct. 8, at the Hall of Justice in San Jose for their roles in the July 12, 2009, stabbing, according to Amy Cornell, public information officer for the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. All three plead no contest to the charge of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm with a gang enhancement that adds to the sentence. Villareal will serve four years, Rodriguez will serve seven years and Timothy Segovia was sentenced to seven years and eight months.

The other gang members, John Macais, Luis Orozco and Charlotte Rapuet are scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 5, Cornell said.

Orozco is expected to be sentenced to 23 years and eight months for voluntary manslaughter, use of a deadly weapon and a gang enhancement, according to Cornell. Macais is expected to be sentenced to 18 years and eight months for voluntary manslaughter with a gang enhancement, and assault with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.

Rapuet is expected to sentenced to one year of prison for accessory to a felony with a gang enhancement and a probation violation, Cornell said.

The stabbing occurred in the midst of a fight, which took place after a 16-year-old girl’s birthday party in Sunnyvale on the 900 block of Bluebell Way, Cornell said.

  1. As a Black man who has never committed a crime or been arrested I feel the content of my character has been disregarded to the point that I have been thrown in with people who are not like me. But the real issue is the MV Voice printing and allowing these types of comments which appear to include all people of color. Those comments do not address the topic 3 sentenced in gang related stabbing. It’s obvious I appear to be surrounded by people who really dislike people of color due to a few bad apples. I guess I should have thrown the baby out with the bath water.

  2. Put the race cards away. Gang-bangers come in all colors and shapes. These guys just happen to be in a known Mexican connection gang. They belong with their peers and not among my neighbors.

  3. When the article leads off with, “Three members of a Norteno gang from Mountain View,” does that mean the three members are from MV or the gang is from MV?

Does anyone know where the “headquarters” is for this gang? or how many Norteno gang members are living in MV?

I know I lead a naive, sheltered life, but I didn’t realize that this was an issue here.

Only people who can provide facts (not ridiculous prejudice or racial stereotyping need respond).

  4. Concerned Citizen,

The “headquarters” of the Nortenos is likely Pelican Bay State Penitentiary as they are affiliated with the Nuestra Familia prison gang. They’re all over the North of the state. Here’s more info:

The movie “American Me” w/ Edward James Olmos tells the story of how the Nuestra Familia came to power in the CA prison system. How accurate it is, I don’t know, but its entertaining

  5. Actually, “American Me” tells the story of the Mexican Mafia (La Eme), who are the rivals of the NF. Edward James Olmos played the part of Rudolf “Cheyenne” Cadena (AKA Santana) and had a contract put out on him by La Eme, who didn’t like how they were portrayed.

La Eme formed at Soledad and the NF formed at Deuel Vocational in Tracy, but obviously their influence is now widespread.

  6. I’ve removed several racist comments and I’m shutting down this thread. There are plenty of places on the Web the may welcome such vitriol, but this is not one of them.
