Police are searching for a man accused of attacking an acquaintance with a metal pipe outside of a house party in the early hours of March 16.

The guest reportedly attacked the host of the house party at about 1 a.m. after the host asked the man to come inside to use the restroom — it appeared the man was urinating on the fence at the time, according to Mountain View police spokeswoman Liz Wylie.

The man turned around holding a metal pipe about 3 feet long and 1/2 inch in diameter and allegedly struck the host’s head twice, Wylie said. Backpedaling in an attempt to dodge the blows, the victim tripped over something, fell and hit his head on the pavement, causing him to black out, she said.

Hearing cries for help outside, the host’s wife went to investigate and saw the attacker kneeling over her husband with the pipe in his hands. Seeing the victim’s wife, the man dropped his weapon and fled.

The wife helped her husband inside and tended to his injuries, Wylie said.

The couple did not call police until March 17, Wylie said. Though the two did not wish to seek medical treatment, they did after being urged to do so by police. The victim received multiple stitches and was diagnosed with a concussion.

Wylie said police believe they know the identity of the attacker but they will not release his name until he is formally charged.

“We are actively searching for him and believe we will have him in custody soon,” Wylie said. “We do not know what the motive was for the attack, but alcohol was involved.”

  1. it is hard to resist holding back on smacking those who infuriate you or make you mad. too bad this kind of behavior takes place. just hold your breath or count to ten. apparently, it is tough to be civilized

  2. How about a location and a description of the attacker? Or, to save time, should we just assume that it is the standard, hoodie-wearing thug within five blocks of the Rengstorff / Central area?

  3. I must agree with Randy, I find it very hard most every day not to cave in some guy’s head with a pipe, especially when they so richly deserve it. It is a good thing that home owner nor his wife had a gun. Someone might have really got hurt, and rather than simply having some pee-on running around, we would have a mountain of explaining to do!
