Is it a sign of the local economy’s health or a fashion trend? The number of weddings planned for the Rengstorff House this year is double what it was last year.

A bridal fair is set to draw attention to Mountain View’s most popular wedding location on April 21, though it hardly seems to need it.

The city is one booking away this year from hitting the 2005-2006 record of 42 event rentals at the Rengstorff House, said senior recreation coordinator Kristina Perino. Only 21 bookings were made last year.

“Rengstorff House Unveiled” will bring the local wedding industry to the restored 1867 home of Henry Rengstorff in Shoreline Park for a bridal fair on Saturday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be twice as many vendors as last year’s event: a throng of florists, caterers, photographers, makeup artists, cake makers, wedding organizers and consultants, limo services and even a company that specializes in renting vintage ware. There will also be free caterer tastings.

The event is also pitched as an open house, showcasing the “hip, vintage and price conscious” Rengstorff House venue, which accommodates 150 people. Surrounded by a 750-acre park, it is “one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast,” Perino writes.

Renting the Rengsorff House on a weekend costs $200 an hour.

Perino said this summer’s “prime” Saturday dates are booked up for the house, and there’s already interest in the summer of 2013.

  1. The Voice needs to call the nearby Ritz carltons, the wineries and check if they are seeing an increase in demand. If they are not seeing a demand, then this could be a case of peoepl cutting down on wedding expenses and not a sign of boom.

  2. It is great to see the RHouse busy! It has really grown into its own maturity and the gardens are fantastic. It is a very peaceful place. How nice that there is a “reasonable” wedding venue.

  3. I noticed that the City usage fee for the Adobe building (30’s Mission style) has gone up enough to discourage the Rotary from always meeting there. Does R House have a fee schedule that is ‘more resident’ friendly? Most of the Parks and Rec. Dept. fees for kids classes have a ‘resident discount’. I hope, at $200 per hour, there is some MV resident discount on this wedding venue! (at least 10%)
Kudos for the P&R court usage fees for the Cuesta Park Tennis Courts. These used to be never collected from non-residents (you never got asked). Now you are always asked and have to show ‘proof of residence’ to get the free usage.
