An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 centered in Contra Costa County was felt in the Mountain View area on Monday night.

The temblor struck at 10:33 p.m. in an area less than a mile away from Pleasant Hill and about 2.2 miles away from Walnut Creek, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It had a depth of 9.1 miles.

Mountain View residents took to NextDoor and Facebook to report feeling the quake. One joked that the California natives’ reaction was to pour a glass of wine and speculate about the magnitude, while newcomers ran outside in fear.

The 4.5-magnitude earthquake was preceded by a 2.5-magnitude temblor at 10:23 p.m.
