Regarding the recent article on the agreement to pay the man attacked by a police dog, why not be more direct about who will pay the settlement: it’s not Palo Alto…it’s not the City of Palo Alto..it’s the taxpayers! Yes, I’m sure some form of insurance covers some of it, which will result in higher costs..somebody pays..and it’s not some anonymous bank account: it’s us taxpayers! Maybe if you start stating the truth on future settlement cases: “ the court ordered taxpayers of the city/ county/ state to pay the settlement costs of X amount..” maybe if we start realizing it’s not the police department, or the aggressor who pays for bad cops malfeasance ..it’s us!..we,ll start pressing our city officials to hire better cops.
