A ruptured gas line prompted lane closures Monday morning on westbound El Camino Real at Bernardo Avenue in Sunnyvale, just across the border from Mountain View, according to Sunnyvale spokesman John Pilger.
At about 8:45 a.m. a construction crew broke through a three-quarter-inch gas line in a parking lot on Knickerbocker Drive near El Camino Real. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crews arrived at the scene and worked with Sunnyvale public safety crews to repair the leak, Pilger said. The leak was sealed within a couple of hours.
All but one lane of westbound El Camino Real was closed so crews could access the line safely, and those lanes were reopened after the leak was sealed. Eastbound lanes were not affected. Pilger said there was never a threat of explosion.
