St. Francis’ Emily Tan, Gunn’s Aoi Kunimoto and Menlo-Atherton’s Ava Martin all won two matches Monday to reach the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Singles Tournament at Bay Club Courtside in Los Gatos.
The fourth-seeded Tan defeated Aragon’s Varsha Jawadi, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 before topping Harker’s Audrey Feng, 6-2, 6-3. She’ll face top-seed Gayathri Krishan at noon Wednesday. Krishan has dropped one game in two matches so far.
The second-seeded Martin started with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Evergreen Valley’s Arin Akkaya and then downed PAL rival Mila Mulready of Burlingame, 6-4, 6-4. Mulready beat Sacred Heart Prep’s Natalie Dias, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round.
Martin faces Kunimoto in the semifinal. Kunimoto opened with a victory over Mountain View’s Penelope Wong, 6-1, retired and then beat Santa Cruz’s Tallia Harper, 6-2, 6-0.
The finals will also be held Wednesday, in conjunction with the doubles semifinals and finals.
The doubles tournament begins Tuesday, with Palo Alto’s Erin Li and Iris Li (no relation) the top-seeded team. Menlo’s Tricia Zhang and Brynn Brady are seeded third and St. Francis’ Jolie Wang and Lauren Smith are seeded fourth.
Menlo-Atherton’s Tessa Ellingson and Lila Motamedi, Gunn’s Nimisha Sivaraman and Kailana Baker-Matsuoka, and Los Altos’ Mui Kikuchi and Madison Chin are also entered.
