Freshman Layla Edris scored in 78th minute, with an assist from Allie Montoya to lead Mountain View past Menlo 2-1 in the Firebird Classic at Fremont High on Saturday.

Menlo took an early lead before senior Isabella Walker scored to tie the game by halftime.

Defenders Emily Chang and Elechi Inoaga helped keep the Knights (1-2) in check in front of goaltenders Lauren Sharkey and Sophia Sasaki, who each played a half.

Mountain View coach Jeff Panos said Julia Webster and Abby Westcott were “pivotal in attack” as the Spartans outshot Menlo, 10-1.

Mountain View hosts St. Francis at 6 p.m. Tuesday as part of the Fremont tournament.

St. Francis grabbed an early behind a pair of first-half goals from Brooklyn O’Brien and beat Los Gatos 6-0.

Stephanie Valeros Barrera and Katherine Thomsen each scored for Palo Alto in a 2-0 win over Hillsdale at Fremont. Hannah Ramrakhiani added an assist and goalie Mars Bau recorded the shutout.

Also at the Firebird Classic, Woodside won its fourth straight to open the season, beating Sacred Heart Prep 2-0, Menlo-Atherton beat Capuchino 6-0 and Fremont downed Castilleja 5-2.

Boys soccer

Senior Kiernan Kunohiro, junior Jacob Goldberg and freshman Noah De Haaff each scored as Menlo-Atherton beat host Homestead 3-0 Saturday as part of the Christmas Holiday Cup.

Caden Annison, Siddharth Rishi and Tiziano Bolaños recorded assists.

In another match, St. Francis fell to Los Gatos 2-1. Marc Haleth scored on a penalty kick for the Lancers. Los Altos fell to Lincoln 1-0.
