We’ve reached the dog days of summer — the traditional peak of hot temperatures and, in baseball, the make-or-break point in the season where struggling teams’ postseason dreams often meet their demise. And in Pacifica, the first weekend of August marks the return of the World Dog Surfing Championship, complete with a dog beach fashion contest and dog adoptions. It also means the return of San Francisco Shakespeare Festival’s free local outdoor productions starting in Cupertino, and the last weekend of the Santa Clara County Fair (which is also featured this week in a photo spread by Devin Roberts). Our August events guide has the details on all that and more, from numerous art fairs and weekly summer concerts to bike rides and a 5K.
And with September right around the corner, Adrienne Mitchel has the love story behind a new pizzeria opening in Redwood City next month after relocating from Lake Como, Italy.

How love led an Italian chef to relocate his pizzeria from Lake Como to Redwood City
Momo Farouq and Sarika Batra have a love story that reads like a romance novel, with their latest chapter culminating in the creation of Pizzeria Cardamomo in Redwood City, expected to open in early September. But their story doesn’t begin in Redwood City – it begins in Lake Como, Italy.

Congrats to Joe M., who was the first reader to correctly identify where last week’s photo was taken (it’s Stevens Creek Reservoir in Cupertino!).
