Lynette Lee Eng, a Los Altos City Council member, is the newest contender in the El Camino Health Care District race, submitting her candidacy a day before the deadline.
Lee Eng says she is running to improve health care for the community, particularly for seniors, and that she is committed to making sure the district provides accessible, high-quality care while maintaining transparency and accountability.
Lee Eng’s top priorities are expanding specialized services for exceptional care; upgrading facilities and staffing for enhanced safety; and ensuring transparent and responsible resource management.
Lee Eng has identified three areas where the district could meet the needs of the community better. She says she would support programs that address food and medical insecurities, as well as programs that expand mental health services, that includes 24/7 crisis services and telehealth options. Similarly, Lee Eng says the district could do more to strengthen support for domestic violence survivors with a dedicated unit to provide care.
In respect to the district’s community benefit program, Lee Eng says she would like to see grants go towards aging in place programs to help seniors maintain their independence. She also would support mental health initiatives, like school-based counseling services and mental health awareness campaigns. Other areas that Lee Eng supports include preventive care and wellness and health care workforce development.
Lee Eng says the district and El Camino Health have made great strides towards transparency but more can be done. “I will advocate for public forums, user-friendly data dashboards and a citizen oversight committee to enhance transparency and community engagement. By clearly delineating between public and corporate activities, we can achieve greater openness and trust in our healthcare system,” she said.
