Here are the local residents who died recently:
Roger Fleischmann, 90, of Portola Valley, who earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1959 and while considered himself an old-school generalist, took particular delight in his successful pro bono representation of a group of Mill Valley residents seeking the right to public nudity in that city’s parks. He died on March 5, 2025.
Oscar Firschein, 97, of Palo Alto, was a computer scientist, engineer, Renaissance man, husband, father, and grandfather who, in Brooklyn, New York, pioneered research in the early field of artificial intelligence, which influence in autonomous land vehicles, remote piloted aircraft, and NASA space station automation. He died on March 5, 2025.
Dr. Jean “Jeannie” Lythcott, 86, of Palo Alto, was a pioneering science educator who taught across continents, a civic leader who inspired young voters, and a resilient trailblazer who shaped education and democracy. After battling cancer and cognitive decline, she died on March 1, 2025.
Lynette Ann Belingheri, 79, of Redwood City, was a devoted wife, mother, and counselor who guided students at Cañada College, a passionate dog lover involved in service animal programs, and a warm-hearted presence whose kindness touched many. She died on Feb. 17, 2025.
