Update: As of Thursday morning, power was largely restored to Mountain View and the surrounding areas. At roughly 10:15 a.m., there were still 302 customers in Mountain View, 433 in Los Altos and 126 in Los Altos Hills without power, a PG&E spokesperson said.
As strong winds and rain battered the area, power went out for thousands of customers in Mountain View on Wednesday afternoon.
There were 8,694 customers in Mountain View without power as of around 3 p.m, Pacific Gas & Electric Company spokesperson Stephanie Magallon said. In Los Altos, 1,970 customers were also impacted by power outages, plus another 1,871 in Los Altos Hills, Magallon said.

PG&E’s public outage map showed that power outages were affecting substantial portions of the area on Wednesday afternoon. As of 3 p.m., the map showed widespread outages in the Shoreline West neighborhood that spilled into parts of Old Mountain View. The Monta Loma, Blossom Valley and Sylvan Park neighborhoods were also affected.
Much of Los Altos Hills was also without power, according to the outage map, as well as portions of Los Altos.
Magallon confirmed that there were multiple outages impacting northern Santa Clara County and that they were related to the storm.
“We are seeing reports of downed wires (and) broken poles – all due to the strong winds and vegetation coming into contact” with power lines,” Magallon said.

PG&E did not yet have an estimate for when power would be restored, Magallon said. Crews are on the scene assessing the damage, but have to complete a number of steps – including ensuring an area is safe to enter and clearing obstacles like downed trees – before they can make repairs, she added.
The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect for an area that includes Mountain View until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 55 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service.
