Bright and early on Wednesday morning in the parking lot outside Mountain View’s Walmart, employees danced to a mariachi band along with the Pillsbury Dough Boy in celebration of the unveiling of renovations to the Showers Drive store, which is now a full-service “Walmart Supercenter.”

The Mountain View Walmart was previously a general merchandise store with a limited grocery section. It now features expanded grocery offerings with more meat, dairy, produce and frozen goods for sale, as well as a bakery and deli with prepared foods, according to a Walmart press release.
The store also features an updated pharmacy and vision center for purchasing glasses and contacts, including a new consultation room. Walmart also updated the “mother’s room” and expanded online pickup and delivery services, according to the press release. A sign at the event advertised that prescriptions can now be delivered to customers’ doors in as quick as an hour. There are also more children’s toys and pet items for sale.
Store Manager Jeremiel Lagdameo addressed the crowd at Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, thanking the attendees for their support, which he said “reflects the spirit of the Mountain View community.”
“This store has been totally transformed for our customers,” he said. “I want to give a big shout out to our 300 associates. … Your hard work and commitment and passion for taking care of customers and each other truly make the difference.”
Mountain View Mayor Ellen Kamei also attended the opening, calling retail a cornerstone of the city’s economic vitality.
“Today’s celebration is much more than a ribbon cutting,” she said. “It reflects our shared commitment to invigorating Mountain View’s commercial center as a dynamic, welcoming place for residents, workers and visitors.”
Mountain View’s Walmart is located at 600 Showers Drive, near other major retailers including a Target, Trader Joe’s, Safeway and Whole Foods. It is also next to a site where the Los Altos School District is considering building a new school campus.
