Alan Bond & Skedaddle
“California cosmic string band” Alan Bond & Skedaddle play bluegrass and old-timey music, including original songs. The band features Bond on mandolin, guitar and vocals; Judy Forrest on guitar and vocals; Tom Lucas on banjo, fiddle and vocals; and Bruce Lacey on bass and vocals, all of whom boast years of experience on the music scene. Alan Bond & Skedaddle will perform at Red Rock Coffee’s 2nd Story series, with opening act Pigeon Roost.

‘Sit, Stay, Laugh – A Bigtime Benefit for Dogs’
Comedy is going to the dogs this week, with proceeds from “Sit, Stay, Laugh – A Bigtime Benefit for Dogs” being split between two dog charities: Birchbark, which provides financial aid to low-income families who cannot afford emergency vet care, along with education and pet-loss counseling; and Grand-Paws Senior Sanctuary, which rescues (mostly) large-breed senior dogs from high-kill shelters to live in foster homes or be adopted. Leading the laughs at this show are comedians Stephen Turner, Joe Klocek, Sophia Garrow and Iain Langlands. The event is for patrons age 21 and up.

Suzanna Smith
Oakland-based jazz vocalist Suzanna Smith brings “The Peggy Lee Project: A Tribute to an Icon” to Palo Alto for two performances this week. She honors the legacy of the beloved singer and lyricist, along with Lee Bloom on piano, John Wiitala on bass, and Jason Lewis on drums. “The Peggy Lee Project” includes classic Lee favorites as well as originals and reimagined material, also taking influence from vocal greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Horn and Helen Merrillon.

Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro
Bestselling authors Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro are on tour. They come to the Fox Theatre for an event presented by Kepler’s Books, sharing their new co-written fantasy novel “The Court of the Dead.” Taking place in the mythology-infused world of the “Percy Jackson” books, in the new novel, demigods Nico di Angelo and Will Solace must survive the terrors of Tartarus to rescue a friend.
