ZZ Top
Classic rock, blues and boogie band ZZ Top is known for members’ distinctive beards and guitar-spinning in addition to their sound. The band got its start in Texas in 1969, gaining wider fame with the music videos for songs such as “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs.” In 2019, it was the subject of a documentary, “ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.” The group makes a tour stop at the Guild Nov. 9.

‘Shared Visions 2025’
Palo Alto Art Studios houses the studio spaces of numerous local artists working in a variety of media. This weekend, the organization is presenting the November show “Shared Visions 2025.” At the opening reception, guests can mingle with fellow art fans while listening to live music by local vocal quartet The Sopranotes and partaking in refreshments.

‘Annie’
“Annie,” the beloved musical based on the comic strip and including songs such as “Tomorrow,” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” is the story of a plucky, Great Depression-era New York orphan who escapes her dismal orphanage and befriends a grumpy billionaire. Palo Alto Players’ stages the family favorite this month, starring Joey McDaniel as Oliver Warbucks, Morgan Dayley as Miss Hannigan, and Julie Li as Annie. Special events during the musical’s run include a “pick-your-price” preview performance Nov. 7; ASL-interpretation Nov. 15; and a relaxed performance for guests of all ages and abilities, partnership with the Magical Bridge Foundation and the City of Palo Alto, also on Nov. 15. Special themed “goody box” concessions will also be available, according to a Facebook post from Palo Alto Players.

‘Everything Old is New Again: A Cabaret Concert & Conversation’
Vocalists Von Bringhurst and Adesuwa O and pianist Shauna Pickett-Gordon present “Everything Old is New Again: A Cabaret Concert & Conversation,” performing selections drawn from art song, opera, musical theater, jazz, popular and world music and exploring the meanings and connections behind the songs. The show is part of Community School of Music and Arts’ series of free community concerts. Bringhurst and O are also CSMA faculty members.

Quique Escamilla
Award-winning singer-songwriter Quique Escamilla was born and raised in Chiapas, Mexico, and is now based in Toronto, Canada. He blends traditional Mexican styles with rock, reggae, ska, pop, jazz, cumbia, bolero, and other Latin American and Caribbean sound and addresses social and political issues such as immigration reform, anti-racism, and indigenous rights, according to Stanford Live. Escamilla performs at the Bing Concert Hall Studio space this weekend.

Piano City
Piano City, a festival bringing contemporary piano performances to various local venues, presents its “Preludio Edition” in Palo Alto Nov. 8-9, with concerts by jazz and classical pianist Victor Xie (Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at Qualia Contemporary Art in Palo Alto), Berlin-based pianist and Piano City founder Andreas Kern (Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center), pianist and educator Louise Costigan-Kerns (Nov. 9 at noon at the EcoCenter in Palo Alto, along with nature activities) and acclaimed pianists Eugene Lee, Ken Iisaka and Maryam Farshadfa (Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at a house concert in Palo Alto).

An Evening with David Sedaris
Humorist, satirist and author David Sedaris’ recent books include the short-story collection “Happy-Go-Lucky,” which chronicles his experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, and his first-ever children’s book, “Pretty Ugly” (with Ian Falconer). Sedaris comes to San Jose for a reading presented by Books Inc. and KQED, with book signing preceding and following the reading.
