Workers in the back of a new Mountain View restaurant silently wrap dumplings at lightning speed. Their knives cleanly slice the pork filling before smearing it into the white wrappers. Each dumpling looks nearly identical to the other 100 on the table.
Super Bao, a Northern-style Chinese restaurant hidden in a strip mall, specializes in handmade dumplings and other Chinese delicacies.

While soup dumplings are the most ordered dish, owner Niu Bo recommends customers try the Super Steamed Buns that he invented. The Super Steamed Buns have a fluffy bread-textured skin but still retain the juicy filling of a soup dumpling. The bun is stuffed with pork, shrimp and green chive filling.
Bo held Super Bao’s soft opening on Jan. 1 in the spot previously occupied by Dumpling Garden.
At Super Bao, the plump xiao long bao soup dumplings are wrapped daily and never frozen. This ensures that when you bite into the dumpling, the wrapper is silky smooth and there’s ample soup to slurp – but be careful, it’s hot. It’s customary for people to bite the wrapper slightly, slurp the juicy soup and then eat the dumpling.
“Our food, our flavors, (are) more suitable to everyone’s palette,” Bo said. “Children, old people, teenagers, they all love our xiao long bao.”
Super Bao offers soup dumplings with multiple fillings. The classic choice is the original pork soup dumplings, but if you want to kick it up a notch, try the spicy pork filling or crab and pork filling ($9.99-$12.99).
Other menu items include chow mein noodles, fried rice, stir-fried vegetables and other traditional Chinese dishes.

During the restaurant’s soft opening phase, Bo is still tinkering with the restaurant’s interior design, hoping to make the space feel more youthful and fun.
“We are always looking for ways to make the restaurant feel cleaner, more inviting and brighter,” Bo said.
In the future, Bo hopes to expand his customer base and encourages people to order something new every time they visit.
