A living room fire in a Mountain View apartment Thursday morning caused an estimated $25,000 in damage and displaced a family of four.
Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at 8:49 a.m. on March 26, reporting a fire at a multi-family residential complex on the 500 block of Central Avenue, according to a Mountain View Fire Department press release. Before crews arrived, the building’s residents had evacuated and a maintenance technician used a fire extinguisher to help stop the fire from spreading.
Firefighters got there three minutes after the initial call came in and put out the remaining flames with a hose. They then cut open the walls to ensure that the fire had not made its way into the wall cavities. Mountain View police officers provided traffic control for 90 minutes while the fire trucks and equipment were on site.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the fire department determined that it started near an entertainment center in the living room, the press release said.
The apartment’s residents, two adults and two children, made temporary arrangements to stay with friends, the press release said.
