What metrics do you use to reflect on the year that was? Do you chart the number of miles you ran, how much taller your child grew or how many concerts you went to?

We asked local agencies and organizations for data that could inform a by-the-numbers look back at 2024. Here are five statistics about life on the Peninsula this year as we head into 2025.

The most attended Stanford Arts events were all concerts:

  1. Fred Again (three nights): 24,000 tickets
  2. Dabin (two nights): 16,300 tickets
  3. Dom Dolla (two nights): 15,925 tickets
  4. John Summit (one night): 8,150 tickets
  5. Clairo (one night): 8,002 tickets

The Santa Clara County Parks system averages about 3 million visitors a year. These were the most visited parks this year (as of Dec. 18):

  1. Vasona Lake County Park: 511,490 estimated visits
  2. Los Gatos Creek County Park: 381,731 estimated visits
  3. Hellyer County Park: 302,613 estimated visits
  4. Martial Cottle Park: 248,811 estimated visits
  5. Santa Teresa County Park: 151,413 estimated visits

These were the most popular print adult books checked out from the San Mateo County Libraries system (as of Dec. 19):

  1. “The Women” by Kristin Hannah: Over 750 checkouts
  2. “Funny Story” by Emily Henry: Nearly 500 checkouts
  3. “Table for Two: Fictions” by Amor Towles: Nearly 500 checkouts
  4. “The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store: A Novel” by James McBride: Over 450 checkouts
  5. “The Housemaid” by Freida McFadden: Nearly 400 checkouts

These were the most visited parks within the San Mateo County Parks system this year (as of Dec. 16):

  1. Coyote Point Recreation Area: 379,661 visitors
  2. Crystal Springs Regional Trail: 374,046 visitors
  3. San Pedro Valley Park: 222,975 visitors
  4. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve: 217,914 visitors
  5. San Bruno Mountain: 164,886 visitors

These were the most visited parks and beaches in the California State Parks system located within San Mateo and Santa Clara counties (as of Nov. 1):

  1. Half Moon Bay State Beach: 1,056,129 estimated visits
  2. Año Nuevo State Park: 149,118 estimated visits
  3. San Gregorio State Beach: 145,664 estimated visits
  4. Castle Rock State Park: 131,959 estimated visits
  5. Henry W. Coe State Park: 31,285 estimated visits
