City’s holiday tree lighting returns

Mountain View is celebrating its annual holiday tree lighting outside City Hall on Monday, Dec. 8.

The festive tradition includes the ceremonial lighting of an outdoor tree as well as live performances, holiday crafts and games, a visit from Santa and train rides for children. The event offers free hot cocoa and cookies until supplies run out. The Voice will also have a booth at the event, with our reporters and editors on hand to talk with readers.

The celebration will run from 5:30-8 p.m. For more information, visit the city’s website.

Downtown parking lot closure

Mountain View is planning to permanently close one of its downtown parking lots starting in January.

Lot 12, which is located across from City Hall and the Mountain View Public Library at 444 Bryant St., is slated to become a 120-unit affordable housing development. Construction is expected to begin in January or February and will take two years to complete, according to a city newsletter.

Visitors can still use other nearby municipal parking lots, including underground parking beneath City Hall and the library on Mercy Street, as well as a lot adjacent to the library at 585 Franklin St.

Waldorf School Winter Fair

The Waldorf School of the Peninsula is holding its annual Winter Fair at the school’s Los Altos campus on Saturday, Dec. 6.

This year’s fair will feature live music, performances and activities including beeswax candle rolling, wreath making and a “gnome adventure” for children. The event will also include food and refreshments for purchase.

“The Winter Fair is a wholesome, screen-free opportunity for local families to gather, explore, and celebrate the season together,” said Christine McQuade Hsu, assistant school director of growth and engagement, in a press release.

Admission to the event is free but tickets are required for activities and can be purchased at a discount until Dec. 3.

The Winter Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 11311 Mora Drive, Los Altos. For more information, visit the Winter Fair website.
