Michael Sinor, who has served as chief technology officer for San Leandro for the past four years, will start as Mountain View’s “chief information officer/information technology director” on April 27, according to a city news release. Sinor will have oversight over the city’s enterprise systems, communication networks, free wi-fi services and telecommunications infrastructure.

Mountain View’s IT department has an annual budget of $11.3 million and is supported by 25 full-time employees. Sinor’s annual starting salary will be $305,000, according to the release.

“He is an innovative and results-oriented leader, bringing with him decades of information technology experience from working for cities in Northern California,” City Manager Kimbra McCarthy said in the release. “We welcome his collaborative spirit and expertise to our high-performing IT Department.”

Sinor launched his career as a geographic information system analyst for the city of Roseville where he was promoted to assistant director of information technology. Sinor later served as an interim IT director for Berkeley, overseeing a department of 50 employees, before taking on the role of chief technology officer at San Leandro. Sinor holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz and is a certified government chief information officer.

“I am honored to join the City of Mountain View and build on the strong foundation of innovation and service to the community,” Sinor said in the release. “I look forward to working collaboratively across the organization to deliver thoughtful, reliable, and forward-looking technology solutions.”

Sinor replaces outgoing CIO and IT director Roger Jensen, who announced his retirement in December. His last day was set for March 20.

  1. Grate! Maybe he can scrub proposals from incompetent/unscrupulous vendors like Flock (?? — ALPR vendor) BEFORE we get burned. Also think about a citizen advisory committee because NOBODY in Mountain View has any professional experience with security !
