Saint Francis High School celebrates new welcome center building
Saint Francis High School in Mountain View hosted an opening celebration and blessing for its new welcome center on Friday, Sept. 6, attended by local elected officials and church leaders.
The roughly 65,000-square foot-welcome center serves as “the front door” of the school, and includes the main office, administrative offices, dining hall, commercial kitchen, educator center and a mezzanine space, school spokesperson Jamie Ceccato Perkins said.
The opening celebration included a blessing and mass, as well as speeches by leaders including Mountain View Mayor Pat Showalter, U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo and Bishop Oscar Cantú.
The welcome center is connected to the Eggers Innovation Center, which opened in January 2023. The innovation center includes a theater, robotics lab, classrooms and makerspace, Perkins said.
Saint Francis is a private Catholic school located on Miramonte Road.
Historical association seeks nominations for oldest Mountain View resident
The Mountain View Historical Association is looking for the public’s help to identify the oldest living person in Mountain View.
The historical association wants to honor the city’s oldest current resident and collect stories from their life, including highlighting historic events during their lifetime.
The oldest resident must currently live in Mountain View. The person who nominates them simply needs to know the resident, according to the history association website.
The oldest resident will receive an honorarium of $250. If applicable, the person who nominates them will get $100. The deadline to submit nominations is Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Mountain View’s citywide garage sale is this weekend
Mountain View’s annual citywide garage sale is this weekend, with over 175 households registered to host sales.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, and Sunday, Sept. 15, homes throughout Mountain View will run garage sales, with the city compiling a list of locations. In addition to an address list, the city has also created an interactive online map, which can be filtered and searched. Some sales will be held both days, while others only run on Saturday or Sunday.
The long-running event has typically been held in May, but the city rescheduled it to Sept. 14-15 after last year’s event was impacted by wet weather.
