For third consecutive year, Mountain view earns recognition for sustainability efforts
For the third year in a row, Mountain View has been recognized for its environmental transparency, receiving a top score from the Carbon Disclosure Project – a global nonprofit that tracks environmental risks and impacts.
Out of 738 cities that the organization scored, Mountain View was one of just 120 that received “A List” status, according to a city press release. The city was one of more than 1,000 entities that participated in a program offered by the Carbon Disclosure Project to help measure and manage risks on issues related to climate change, water security and deforestation.
This year’s high mark means the city demonstrated that it had executed a climate risk and vulnerability assessment, initiated plans to address climate adaptation and progressed toward meeting targets, the press release said.
“Here in Mountain View, we are planning ahead for managing environmental risks, including sea level rise,” former Mayor Ellen Kamei said in the press release. “Having this acknowledgement of our environmental efforts is a testament to how we are building a sustainable and resilient Mountain View of tomorrow.”
The city also earned “A List” status from the nonprofit in 2023 and 2024. In April 2020, the City Council adopted a goal for Mountain View to reach carbon neutrality by 2045. A 2023 report showed that the city was making progress toward that goal, with greenhouse gas emissions dropping.
El Camino Health names new CFO
El Camino Health appointed Raju Iyer – a long-time healthcare finance leader – as its chief financial officer earlier this month, according to a press release.
Iyer has more than two decades worth of finance leadership experience in the healthcare industry, having previously served as CFO of both Sutter Health and UCSF Health, the press release said. Throughout his career, he has managed multi-billion-dollar capital investments, helped create long-term strategic plans and played a role in the building of five new hospitals.
El Camino Health has multiple locations throughout the South Bay, including its hospital on Grant Road in Mountain View. The organization has doubled its number of patients in the last six years and expanded its medical staff to more than 300 physicians, the press release said.
Mountain View hosts eviction workshop for local residents
The city of Mountain View is hosting a virtual workshop at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 to teach people about rental protections in Mountain View.
The Rent Stabilization Division regularly organizes educational workshops for local residents to help spread awareness about Mountain View’s rent stabilization laws. Tuesday’s workshop will include information about termination notices, reasons for eviction and what’s protected under the law.
In 2016, voters approved Measure V, which established rent control in Mountain View and led to the creation of a five-person Rental Housing Committee appointed by the City Council that is in charge of setting allowable rents, creating regulations and ruling on disputes between tenants and landlords.
This same measure also established eviction protections for tenants. The Community Stabilization and Fair Rent Act states that “no landlord shall take action to terminate any tenancy” unless one of nine exemptions exist, including failure to pay rent, breach of lease and criminal activity.
On the first and third Thursdays of each month, a housing help center, located at 298 Escuela Ave., is open for local tenants from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday’s eviction workshop will be held via Zoom at this link.
