A Mountain View police investigation led to the arrest of a San Jose resident suspected of burglarizing cars throughout Santa Clara County.
Last month, the Mountain View Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit started looking into a string of vehicle burglaries in the parking lots of several tech companies in Mountain View and nearby cities, a March 10 Mountain View Police Department press release said.Â
Detectives ultimately identified a 27-year-old San Jose man believed to be responsible for vehicle break-ins in Mountain View, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Milpitas.
The suspect, who mostly went after work vans, allegedly entered the cars by smashing windows, according to the press release. The goods he stole, which often included contractors’ tools, were typically worth several thousand dollars per incident.
In collaboration with the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team, Mountain View detectives located the suspect vehicle on Feb. 24. During a traffic stop, SCCSET officers apprehended the suspect.
He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and charged with several felonies and misdemeanors, including multiple counts of burglary and criminal conspiracy, as well as possession of stolen property, a parole violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
