The Mountain View Whisman School District’s board of trustees picked Charles DiFazio to serve as its president for the next year, with Lisa Henry chosen to be vice president and Ana Reed taking the helm as clerk.
Using a rotation system, where the clerk moves into the vice presidency and the vice president becomes the president, the school board’s officer appointments ran smoothly at the Thursday, Dec. 18, meeting.
Board member Devon Conley kicked off the nominations by suggesting that DiFazio replace Bill Lambert as president. DiFazio, who has been vice president for the past year, accepted the nomination and the board voted 5-0 to select him.
The board president collaborates with the superintendent to make meeting agendas, leads board meetings and often serves as the board’s spokesperson. However, they still have the same voting power as any other board member.
Before handing the gavel over to DiFazio, Lambert said that he felt honored to serve as president for the last year, representing Superintendent Jeff Baier, staff, parents and students.
DiFazio switched places with Lambert at the dais and started his acceptance speech by thanking his fellow trustees. He added that in his new position, he hopes to bring “reason, steady oversight and leadership.”
“As president, I aim to foster an open, trusted environment, where every one of us feels our voices are heard even if we end up disagreeing,” DiFazio said.
The yearly selection process continued with Lambert’s nomination of Henry to serve as vice president, which the board also approved unanimously. Reed was then unanimously picked to take over as clerk, also on Lambert’s nomination.
DiFazio, Henry and Reed are the newest members of the school board, all having been elected and sworn in last year. They will all be up for re-election in 2028.
In contrast, Lambert and Conley’s current terms expire at the end of 2026.
