John Zoglin, a digital marketing executive, is the longest serving incumbent on the El Camino Healthcare District board. He was appointed in 2007 and has been reelected four times since then.

Zoglin says he is running for another term to continue effective leadership and partnerships with other local elected officials, while also serving as an example of engaged community service.

Zoglin’s top three priorities are providing high quality of care, expanding convenient access to care and delivering full accountability and transparency.

While the district has made great strides in all three areas, Zoglin says that more can be done to address the mental health needs of the community and deliver these services directly. He said this could be carried out through stronger partnerships with local governments and subsidies for independent outpatient clinics.

In respect to the future of El Camino Health, Zoglin says the consolidation of the healthcare industry poses some challenges for the organization. El Camino Health is a smaller public entity that is competing with private health care giants, like Kaiser, Sutter and Stanford, which continue to consolidate their dominant positions, Zoglin said.

To succeed, Zoglin says El Camino should continue “to deliver top quality care in a personalized environment with superior ease of access to care.” It also should reinvest locally in outpatient network expansion, Zoglin said, noting that El Camino Health now operates in 18 locations, up from just three.

In regard to its governance structure, Zoglin gives El Camino Healthcare District and El Camino Health an “excellent” rating, stating that he believes it provides the maximum accountability and transparency to the public.
