Rory Block
Country blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Rory Block is known as a skillful interpreter of country blues traditions, as well as for her own compositions. She grew up immersed in the Greenwich Village folk music scene and, as a teen, dived into the world of the blues, learning from legends such as Mississippi John Hurt. She’s touring in support of her newest album “Heavy on the Blues,” which was released this summer by M.C. Records.

Trans Narratives of America
Kepler’s Books hosts a conversation about the importance of preserving and honoring transgender stories and voices, featuring authors Carolina De Robertis (“So Many Stars: An Oral History of Trans, Nonbinary, Genderqueer, and Two-Spirit People of Color”) and Nico Lang (“American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era”) and moderated by writer Britta Stromeyer. The event is a collaboration between Kepler’s Literary Foundation and Bay Area Book Festival, includes a pre-conversation reception, and “will delve into the connections between the stories of trans youth and elders, exploring how shared histories, struggles, and triumphs form the backbone of resistance and resilience,” Kepler’s website states.

Sept. 9, 6 p.m., Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park; $6.24-$11.49; keplers.org/upcoming-events-internal/trans-narratives

Moonlight Benjamin
Dubbed the “Caribbean Patti Smith” by The Guardian, Haitian-born singer-songwriter and bandleader Moonlight Benjamin began singing in church as a teenager. Her rich, deep vocals pack a wallop over a hard-driving sound that draws on Haitian roots music, melding it with punky garage rock and blues, through a haze of grungy distortion. Benjamin sings in Haitian Creole and French. Her latest album is “Wayo,” released in 2023.

Sept. 11, 8 p.m., at Club Fox, 2209 Broadway St., Redwood City; $32.20; worldclassmusic.live/events.
