A fire tore through an apartment building in the San Antonio neighborhood on Sunday morning, displacing nine residents and causing an estimated $1 million in damages, according to the Mountain View Fire Department.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 11:33 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, reporting that a fire had broken out in a three-story apartment complex at the 2600 block of Fayette Drive. Fire crews arrived at the location and saw flames coming from the third floor of the building, according to the statement.

The occupants had already been evacuated by property management and the Mountain View Police Department before fire crews arrived, officials said.

Firefighters used a fire hose to combat the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring apartments. A second alarm was called for assistance from the Palo Alto Fire Department and Santa Clara County Fire Department, which also provided breathing equipment, according to the statement.

Once the blaze was put out, firefighters performed an overhaul of the burned-out unit to make sure the flames were fully extinguished, officials said.

Nine residents living in seven apartments were displaced as a result of the fire, and the American Red Cross was contacted to coordinate temporary housing arrangements for them. There were no reported injuries from the fire, according to the statement.

The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation, and the estimated damage to the building’s contents and structure is $1 million, officials said.
