The garage of a single-family home in Mountain View’s Stierlin Estates neighborhood caught fire early Wednesday morning, causing $50,000 in damage and displacing seven residents.
Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:38 a.m. on Jan. 7, reporting smoke and fire at a house on the 700 block of San Pablo Drive. Firefighters arrived on scene seven minutes later and extinguished flames coming from the attached garage, ensuring the fire did not spread further into the home or affect neighboring properties, according to a fire department press release.
Firefighters rescued two dogs from inside the home and reunited them with the residents, who had already evacuated before the crews arrived. No one was injured, the press release said.
By using thermal imaging cameras and cutting open the walls and the ceiling of the garage, firefighters made sure the fire was fully put out. The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for three hours while firefighters worked.
The fire department has determined that the blaze began in the garage, but its cause is still being investigated, the press release said. The American Red Cross helped coordinate temporary housing for the four adults and three children who lived at the house, which experienced smoke damage and had its gas and electric utilities disconnected.
