Let’s raise a pint to another SF Beer Week. From Feb. 21 to March 2, breweries all along the Peninsula will be offering special releases, tap takeovers, competitions, meet-and-greets, live music and more. 

From piña colada-inspired brews to battles between hazy and West Coast IPAs, here’s a roundup of Peninsula Beer Week events.

Alpha Acid Brewing Company, Belmont

Founded in 2014, this Belmont-based brewery is releasing a new 11% West Coast Triple IPA Feb. 21. Alpha Acid’s Final Final West Coast Triple IPA has notes of tropical pineapple, dank grass and bright citrus. Expect food from San Jose food truck Pre-Hispanic Mexican Cuisine.

The next day, Alpha Acid will have eight versions of its barrel-aged imperial stouts on tap, including its Coconut Cacao Barrel Constrictor aged with toasted coconut and Ghana cacao nibs. All eight stouts are aged for 12-14 months and contain 13.8%-15% ABV. Bottles, priced at $20 for 500 milliliters, are currently available on presale. Food will be provided by Belmont-based Dom’s Nom’s BBQ.

Alpha Acid will also host a tiki party on March 1, with live performances by local rock bands and the return of its Tiki Girl. This sour ale is inspired by a piña colada and has notes of coconut, pineapple, passion fruit and marshmallow.

Barebottle Brewing Company, Menlo Park and Santa Clara

The brewery will release its annual Triple IPA Doom Bloom Feb. 21. With 10.1% ABV, Doom Bloom has notes of orange juice, island fruits, orange blossom and pine. 

On Feb. 24, arcade games in the taprooms will be free from 4-9 p.m., and on Feb. 26 Barebottle will offer special beer slushies and craft beer concoctions.

Gourmet Haus Staudt, Redwood City

This Bavarian beer garden was originally a flower shop established by Joe and Lucie Staudt in 1975. On Feb. 22, Gourmet Haus Staudt will highlight brews from Firestone Walker with its tap takeover, including its Maple Parabola, an imperial stout made with maple syrup.

The following day will be the beer garden’s annual Lambic Extravaganza, featuring eight draft lambics, 10 in-haus bottled lambics and 15% off all lambic in the shop. Lambic originated in Belgium and is the oldest beer style in the world. 

Expect beer trivia on Feb. 26. The following day, Gourmet Haus Staudt will shine a light on Sacramento breweries, featuring draft beer from Moonraker, Slice, Shred and Urban Roots. Then on March 1, find draft beer from breweries in Southern California, including Green Cheek, Highland Park, ISM and Everywhere.

Humble Sea Brewing Co., Pacifica

This Santa Cruz-based brewery is hosting a celebration of pilsners at its Pacifica taproom on March 1, dubbed PilsGnar. Beginning at 11 a.m., find a wide selection of “the crispiest, most hype pilsners ever” until supplies last, according to Amber Gaeta, Humble Sea’s creative lead.

Out of the Barrel, San Carlos

Out of the Barrel in San Carlos will host a Craft Beer Fest and Invitational Competition on March 1 from 2-6 p.m. for SF Beer Week. Courtesy Out of the Barrel.

With additional locations in Campbell and Los Gatos, Out of the Barrel sources all of its beer from independent craft breweries. Its San Carlos location will host a Craft Beer Fest and Invitational Competition on March 1 from 2-6 p.m. This $75 ticketed event allows guests unlimited pours of Californian lagers, IPAs and sours in a commemorative branded taster glass, as well as the chance to meet the brewers, enjoy live music and participate in activities. Food will be available for purchase.

Part of the festival includes the Invitational Competition, where an expert panel of judges reviews entries from top breweries in a blind competition. A People’s Choice competition allows all guests to weigh in with their opinions.

Smoke Eaters, Santa Clara

This sports pub specializes in chicken wings and offers a variety of beers on tap. On Feb. 21, the first day of Beer Week, Smoke Eaters will host its annual Hops for Hope event, with 10% of all sales benefiting the Lucile Packard Foundation. Expect beers from breweries like Russian River, Humble Sea, Shred, Alvarado, Cellarmaker and more.

State of Mind Public House & Pizzeria, Los Altos and Redwood City

Founded in Los Altos in 2018, this California-inspired pizzeria has a large selection of tap beer. State of Mind will host its sixth annual Hazy vs. West Coast IPA Battle on Feb. 22 at the Los Altos location. It includes a blind tasting and voting of a flight of three hazy and three West Coast IPAs from Narrative Fermentation, Original Pattern and Humble Sea breweries.

Over in Redwood City, State of Mind’s taps will feature beers from Original Pattern, including its Fear The Reaper Triple IPA with a 10.5% ABV.

Taplands Taproom & Brewery, Santa Clara

With 24 rotating taps, Taplands offers both housemade, small batch beers and other craft beers. Taplands will host its eighth annual Wake & Break on Feb. 22, featuring Stan’s Donut breakfast sandwiches paired with breakfast-style craft beer.

The following day, all 24 taps will feature beer from breweries that are part of the Silicon Valley chapter of the Bay Area Brewers Guild. On Feb. 26, expect a GOAL.Brewing tap takeover with the chance to meet Derek Gallanosa, the former head brewer of Rocklin-based Moksa Brewing Company.
