A Mountain View man was stabbed, treated and finally arrested last week after getting in an auto accident on Highway 101, police said.

The victim, identified only as a 22-year-old Hispanic man, was involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident with his alleged attackers on the night of Wednesday, April 4 on the Ellis Street off-ramp. He later told police that, after the collision, the occupants of the other car — a female driver and her male companion — agreed to give him a lift. His damaged vehicle was left behind on the off-ramp.

The female driver, an 18-year-old Mountain View resident, and her companion took the victim to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Tyrella Avenue. The victim reported that when they reached the apartment’s parking lot, the male companion got out of the car and began stabbing him with a knife. Another male suspect, who was waiting in the parking lot with a group, joined the first suspect in the attack. The victim fled the attack and called police, who received the call at 10:25 p.m.

The victim was found with several puncture wounds and lacerations, and taken to El Camino Hospital for treatment.

Later that night, police said, the two main suspects in the attack visited the hospital to accompany the female driver, who had received a laceration during the auto accident. After the young woman reported the incident, hospital staff contacted police, who then determined that Miguel Angel Arroyo, 19, of Mountain View and Hansel Alexander Munoz, 20, of Sunnyvale were the primary attackers. They were arrested and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of attempted homicide and conspiracy.

According to Mountain View police spokesman Jim Bennett, the victim of the attack also came under police scrutiny.

“It turns out the victim had two felony no-bail warrants out for his arrest for auto theft, possession of stolen property and narcotics, so he was placed under arrest for those and booked at the county jail as well,” Bennett said. The victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bennett said the motive of the attack is still unclear. As of press time, Munoz and Arroyo were not linked to any other crimes.

“Detectives are continuing their investigation, however at this time it appears that all primary suspects involved in the attempted homicide are in custody,” Bennett said.
