Police are seeking a warrant for the arrest of a Sacramento man suspected of robbery after he allegedly stole food from a Walmart by force and tried to flee in a van.

The 53-year-old man reportedly walked into the store shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, and tried to leave the store with spare ribs without paying for them. Store employees reportedly tried to stop the man from leaving, but the man allegedly took the ribs by force and walked out of the store, according to police spokeswoman Katie Nelson.

The man left in a van, but officers were able to locate it heading away on San Antonio Road, Nelson said. The man was detained and identified as the suspect in the alleged robbery, but had to be taken to a nearby hospital for a medical condition that occurred while he was detained, Nelson said.

Police have since requested a warrant for the man’s arrest, Nelson said.

  1. The police took him to the hospital for indigestion? The guy may just stroll back into the same Walmart. There is no penalty and surely he is again hungry.
