Neither side was particularly happy about the result, though there were many good things that happened from both the Mountain View and Los Altos boys soccer teams Monday night.
Playing to a scoreless tie is frustrating at best. There’s always that one scoring opportunity that comes back to haunt you and both teams had golden chances.
Both sides played outstanding defense, especially on the back line, and all the goalies recorded timely saves. Mountain View’s Anthony Pertsel rose to the challenge of Los Altos’ added pressure in the second half while both Rohan Chavan and Zach Meyn turned in solid performances for Los Altos.
“In the beginning I felt like we were keeping the pressure on them,” Mountain View team captain Bryan Kim said. “Then it seemed we weren’t playing like we would normally. That’s a lesson. Our goal is to make it to (Central Coast Section) and win league. Another realization was we were playing to their level.”
Los Altos junior forward Zaid Issa said he felt the Eagles (1-3-3, 0-0-1) were ready to come together after such a difficult preseason, which included a pair of 1-0 losses. Their three losses were all to winning teams (with a combined 17-5-4 record as of Monday).
“The preseason was not amazing,” Issa said. “But we’re ready to move forward.”
Los Altos hosts Gunn (4-4-1, 0-1-1), another team with mixed results, in a SCVAL De Anza Division match at 6 p.m.
Mountain View (6-1-1, 1-0-1) hosts Homestead (0-6-1) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Kim, Diego Buntz, Luc Bortolato and Ricky Guerrero were among the many standouts for the Spartans while Allan Feldman, Josh Von Tassel, Arya Hatami and Diego Vera supplied Los Altos with highlights.
Girls basketball
Freshman Antonia Vlahos scored 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting but Castilleja fell to host Notre Dame San Jose 75-38 on Saturday night in a West Bay Athletic League Skyline Division contest
Vlahos was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, added 14 rebounds and blocked two shots.
Castilleja (3-6, 0-1) is at home Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game against Mercy Burlingame.
Boys basketball
Kehillah dropped an 83-47 decision to host Nueva in a Private Schools Athletic League game Monday night.
Kehillah (4-1, 1-1) hosts Summit Shasta at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
