A Stanford University undergraduate student died early Saturday morning after a vehicle struck him while he was riding an electric bike near the intersection of Palm Drive and Arboretum Road, according to the university.
The circumstances of the May 31 accident are being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, according to a letter that Michele Rasmussen, the university’s vice provost for student affairs, sent out to the community. The university identified the victim as Aradshar Chaddar, a Maryland native who lived in Pakistan before coming to Stanford in fall 2023.
Chaddar was the president of Stanford Democrats and a member of the Alpa Kappa Psi and Pre-Law Society, Rasmussen wrote.
Chaddar’s family has been notified, she noted.
“We hold Aradshar’s friends, residential community, professors, and loved ones in our thoughts as they process this very sad news,” she wrote.
The cause of the accident wasn’t immediately known. According to the CHP, the incident was called in at 2:57 a.m. on Saturday. The vehicle involved was a Honda Accord, which collided with a Tuttio Adria E-bike that Chaddar was riding. He was transported to Stanford Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Honda remained on scene and awaited the emergency responders, the CHP reported. Drugs and alcohol were not involved and there were no arrests made, according to the CHP.
