These aren’t your typical macarons: Find creme brulee, tiramisu and even durian macarons in Mountain View

As a lifelong Los Altos resident, I visit downtown Mountain View a lot. So when I heard there was a macaron shop along Castro Street that’s been in operation for years, I was shocked I hadn’t heard of it earlier. Kelly Liu, a Cupertino resident and self-taught baker, moved into 1030 Castro St. in 2019 (just outside of downtown), but Oh Honey wasn’t always a macaron shop.

I met up with Liu at her shop to learn about her journey from nursing student to business owner and marveled at the gorgeous macarons and choux pastry in the display case. Liu is offering a specialty box of two macarons and two choux pastries for a discounted price for Peninsula Restaurant Week, which starts Friday and lasts through April 27!

This week I ventured up the Peninsula to San Mateo, where I found a flurry of recently opened and soon-to-open restaurants. Read all about family-owned Asian fusion brunch concept Taste and Glory, as well as new San Mateo restaurants specializing in fries and tater tots, dim sum, izakaya and more. And special shoutout to you boba lovers (me included) because the Downtown San Mateo Association is hosting Boba Day later this month! I have everything you need to know about this upcoming event celebrating the beloved sweet, squishy sphere.

Stay tasty,
Adrienne

Sausage, egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich from St. Stephen’s Green in Mountain View

While I wouldn’t recommend going to St. Stephen’s Green for their sausage, egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich, I absolutely would recommend going for their drag brunch. That’s right, an Irish pub in downtown Mountain View does drag brunch. I am equally as surprised.

I had never been to a drag show before, much less a drag brunch, so I really had no expectations going into it. I opted for an Irish coffee and kept it simple with a breakfast sandwich. The menu also included a full Irish breakfast, other croissant sandwiches, scrambles and French toast. And while the breakfast sandwich is nothing to go out of your way for, the vibes were, well, immaculate. Hosted by Chai Auntea and featuring Charity Kase, Lady Jesus and Mia Fierce, I was pretty much in a constant state of laughter. (I was also chosen to participate in a catwalk, which was equally embarrassing and fun.)

St. Stephen’s Green is also hosting a Mother’s Day drag brunch disco party May 12.

St. Stephen’s Green, 223 Castro St., Mountain View; 650-964-9151, Instagram: @stephensgreen. Open Monday through Thursday from 4-11:30 p.m., Friday from noon to 2 a.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
