Summer movie preview: The fun and the ‘Furiosa’

Whether it’s action, horror or fun family comedies, this summer’s movie lineup has a little something for everyone — though not as many superheroes as we’re used to seeing at this time of year.

Arts briefs: Aoife O’Donovan, Mark Lettieri Group, author Thien Pham and more

This week, singer-songwriter Aoife O’Donovan plays The Guild Theatre; Mark Lettieri Group brings high-energy guitar to Palo Alto; Duke’s Small Groups highlights rare Duke Ellington tunes; author Thien Pham discusses his graphic novel memoir. Plus, indie musician House of Asha; Head West Marketplace; and Avril Lavigne gets concert season underway at Shoreline Amphitheatre.

A place to play: Sound Union in Redwood City is a private club and a public concert venue

John Avilla and Tom Zazueta founded Sound Union, a private club where members can socialize, jam, rehearse and more. The club also includes performance space for public concerts.

After 65 years in Palo Alto, Gallery House has moved to downtown Menlo Park, where it reopened on May 22.

Slice House by Tony Gemignani opens in Mountain View

When the newest Slice House opens at The Village at San Antonio Center this weekend, its menu will include a special pizza created just for Mountain View.

Pho coffee, coconut ube coffee and more: New Sunnyvale pop-up Robu Coffee plans to expand to a nearby brick and mortar

Pho coffee is now a thing, and you can find it at a Vietnamese-fusion coffee pop-up in Sunnyvale. Robu Coffee aims to introduce Asian flavors into the craft coffee scene, and it doesn’t stop at pho: Find offerings like cherry blossom lattes, coconut ube coffees and vegan traditional Vietnamese coffee.

Meet The Baker Next Door: Neighbors bring handmade bread and pastries to downtown Redwood City 

Since last September, The Baker Next Door has been selling fresh, handmade bread and pastries at Friday pop-ups in downtown Redwood City. And by late summer it should have a permanent bakery and cafe at 851 Main St., where construction is currently in full swing (the pop-up events are held in front of the building.)
