A motorcyclist riding on Oregon Expressway at Alma Street died in an apparent crash on Monday night, the Palo Alto Police Department wrote in a press release on Tuesday.

According to police, an officer on regular patrol encountered the motorcyclist, who was immediately transported to a local hospital where he died. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner identified him as 20-year-old Mountain View resident Devan Harper.

Police say their initial investigation revealed he was traveling westbound on Oregon Expressway when his motorcycle struck the curb. The cause of the collision, however, remains under investigation by the Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction team and the cause of death is still pending by the Coroner’s Office. Police say they don’t yet know whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and no other vehicle appears to have been involved.

Police closed the roadway for about four hours during their initial investigation.
