Three Bay Area counties have teamed up to create a unified alert system for emergency notifications related to the Super Bowl and other associated events the week prior to the game.
The game is scheduled for Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and several concerts, parties and National Football League-related events will be held in multiple cities throughout the Bay Area during the week-long build up to the game.
The counties of Santa Clara, San Francisco and San Mateo activated a shared alert system that will focus on information related to the game and its surrounding events, including notifications about public safety incidents, as well as extreme weather and traffic disruptions, according to a joint news release from the city of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Management.
The alert system will operate separately from each of the counties’ pre-existing emergency alerts, which warn of natural disasters and evacuations and provide notifications from first responders.
The counties and the Santa Clara Police Department–which is the lead security agency for the game–are encouraging locals and tourists alike to take advantage of the tool.
“With thousands of residents and visitors expected in Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX, staying informed is one of the simplest and most effective ways people can help keep themselves and others safe,” Santa Clara Police Chief Cory Morgan said in a statement.
The information is location-specific, so anyone staying or traveling through any of the three counties was encouraged to sign up for any locality they will need information about.
To receive automatic alerts about information in Santa Clara, including countywide alerts and information specifically near Levi’s Stadium, send a text message to 888-777, and enter SBLX in the message field.

To sign up for notifications in San Francisco, text the same number, 888-777, and type SuperBowlSF in the message field. Send the message to receive a notification confirming the subscription was activated.
For messages centered in San Mateo County, which will be a main transit corridor between many of the week’s events in San Francisco and Santa Clara, text 672-83 and send a message that says SuperBowl.
Each notification system is temporary, and subscribers will stop receiving messages after Feb. 8. Anyone signed up for any of the counties’ regular emergency alerts will keep getting those notifications.
The notifications will include unexpected road closures and transit notifications, but residents and visitors were also encouraged to sign up for notifications from BART and Caltrain.
