I would guess this person works for a candidate.

This persons identity needs to be released immediately and what connections, if any, that he has with with any candidates.

The public needs to know if any candidate ordered him, or any other group paid him to do that.

We need to know NOW!

Vandalizing signs is so stupid. What is the point?

They really identified the dude from that footage in the middle of the night while he was wearing sunglasses with a hood and hat? They must have had a suspect in mind to start with.

There's a photo of the man on the Palo Alto Post page. Despite his disguise, he's still pretty recognizable.

I AM FOR FULL PROSECUTION OF THIS CRIME.

I DO NOT ADVOCATE NOR TOLERATE THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR AT ALL.

IT IS NOT ONLY CRIMINAL, BUT SIMPLY THE WORST APPROACH TO ACHIEVE A GOOD POLITICAL OBJECTIVE.

BUT I DID NOTICE THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT A MINORITY "LIGHT SKINNED". WHATS TO SAY IF THIS WAS A SUPPORTER OF JOHN INKS TRYING TO CREATE A "SIMPATHY" VOTE FOR HIM?

When u look at the actual video and pictures and u you know the individual, then you know who it is. As most people suspected it is a pro tenant radical activist. He will be charged.

He WAS on Lenny Seigels list of endorsements. Obviously he knows who it is.

For the naive, continue to believe this was all motivated by John Inks.

Mountain View's political sign ordinance was amended in 1995 to make "unlawful" defacing or removing or blocking or adding to a political sign (City Code section 3.26). The next section (3.27) makes the conduct a misdemeanor. There are also state laws against a form of vandalism called "malicious mischief" and theft that could apply. But whoever was wearing that disguise should just be charged with violating the city law. It is possible the guy (or gal) is a supporter of a candidate (such as John Inks). But John Inks is not responsible for the conduct of his supporters unless he conspired or aided and abetted.

You feign to be outraged then when someone tells you the person is one of your radical leftist activists, all of a sudden it’s a disguise or a mask or an operative or whatever fits your agenda. The video from Church St is not the only evidence. The person has been named here and will be brought to justice. Siegel is obviously aware who it is because he was listed as an endorser on Saturday and was suddenly absent from the list on Sunday. The PD and the DA will hopefully do their jobs and we should see an end to this vandalism.

Pretty smart to drop a self-described "supporter" from your list of supporters if he or she is caught doing something wrong. But where is the list of John Inks supporters? Let's check that list (if any).

In response to mike rose you said:

In response to Anonymous You said:

No argument, but if it turns out that said investigation exonerates him, what will the others say?

Again, I provided both videos, and they do not appear to be the same person if you look at them. That’s all I am saying. If there is other evidence, please provide it? Otherwise, the video is all the evidence we have right now.

Give it a rest TBM. It’s an active investigation. The only people that “need to decide” if the evidence shows the primary suspect are the police and eventually a jury of twelve. That’s if it goes that far. This will probably end in some sort of plea deal and fine. The identity will be released if and when the police/DA issue a citation. Until then, no conspiracy theory or ranting and raving will change any of the facts.

It is highly unusual for the Police not to release the name of the suspect, to be honest. With 2 weeks left until election day, it seems very important that voters know who this well known community organizer is. How many other campaigns with similar issues over the years demanded that identity be public? Answer: all of them.

This is correct information. Here is the text:

“UPDATE: On Sunday, Oct. 21, 73-year-old Job Lopez was issued a citation for petty theft and for vandalism. He is scheduled to appear in court in December.

ORIGINAL POST:

A man connected to a vandalism case on Friday involving a city council candidate's campaign sign has been identified.

WHILE THE INVESTIGATION INTO THIS CASE IS STILL ONGOING, WE WANTED TO PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY WITH AN UPDATE IN LIGHT OF THE TRACTION THIS INCIDENT HAS RECEIVED.

On Friday, Oct. 19, around 3:40 am, a man walked up to front door of a home on the 100 block of Church Street. Home security footage captured the man allegedly defacing a campaign sign belonging to city council candidate John Inks. In the video, the man appears to spray paint the sign, walk back to the front of the yard and pick up another type of sign, and walk away. The man seen in the video was wearing sunglasses with the hood of his sweatshirt pulled up over a baseball cap, dark colored pants and gloves.

When we received a copy of this footage early Saturday morning, one of our officers immediately recognized the man. THAT INDIVIDUAL WAS INTERVIEWED ON SATURDAY, AND ON SUNDAY, OFFICERS ISSUED A CITATION FOR PETTY THEFT AND FOR VANDALISM TO 73-YEAR-OLD JOB LOPEZ. HE IS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN COURT IN DECEMBER. Should anything change, or should we have further updates on this incident, we will immediately inform our community. We appreciate your patience as we gather information and as we thoroughly investigate this incident.

We encourage anyone who has any additional information on this incident to contact Sgt. Wahed Magee at Wahed.Magee@mountainview.gov. Media inquiries can be sent to PIO Katie Nelson at policepio@mountainview.gov”

However, I once established in court that a CITATION is not evidence. This is going to go to court and the evidence will be presented to a judge or a jury.

This information has not demonstrated any evidence, only that the CITATION was issued. The court is going to establish whether he did this or not. So far still only the video is the evidence being discussed. Can you identify this person absent a reasonable doubt given the videos I provide here?

LOOK CAREFULLY, THAT GUY IN THE VIDEO IS WAY YOUNGER THAN JOB LOPEZ, JOB LOPEZ IS IN HIS 60S I THINK, AND THINNER THAN THIS VIDEO. . JUST LOOK AT THIS VIDEO (Web Link)

COMPARE IT TO THIS VIDEO (Web Link)

WE MUST WAIT UNITLL THE COURT ADJUDICATES THE CASE

Keep reaching TBM. There is more eveidence than what was released to the public. A jury will decide, assuming Job takes it that far. In the mean time, the court of public opinion, that the left so lovingly embraces, will backfire on its supporters, exposing their fraudulent nature.

I do not know Job Lopez, but do know of a Mountain View resident by that name. Yes, he is a community activist and is from the left. But he has always played by the rules. This is not like the person that I have heard about.
I think that this incident calls for a 14-day evaluation. This could be a sign of early onset dementia.

No reaching, I agree the jury or judge will make the call. You said:

“There is more eveidence than what was released to the public.”

What evidence? You have to disclose such evidence if you’re going to make that claim. Simply put, you are assuming facts not yet in evidence. Please demonstrate that only a facial recognition by a police office on a grainy poorly lit video is acceptable “evidence”. In this age, if facial recognition software cannot corroborate this officers opinion, it simply is an opinion. It is not eye-witness testimony, nor evidence. My observation is that this identification is questionable. The officer cannot say with the required certainty that the 2 individuals in the videos above are the same. You said:

“A jury will decide, assuming Job takes it that far.”

If he is innocent, he will. You said:

“In the mean time, the court of public opinion, that the left so lovingly embraces, will backfire on its supporters, exposing their fraudulent nature.”

Just another opinion, I just stick with my observations.

I am making this statement personally and on behalf of my re-election campaign:
When the first reports of sign vandalism circulated weeks ago, I made a statement from the Council dais denouncing such actions, and I against condemned it last week. I, along with the other Council candidates, also signed onto the column written by Councilmember Showalter in the September 7 edition of the Mountain View Voice, in which we condemned sign vandals.
Defacing or removing signs is not only illegal; it is ethically reprehensible. It goes against our democratic principles. And to those who don’t understand that, it is also counter-productive because it earns sympathy for the candidate whose sign is defaced.
I recognized Job Lopez’s face in the video and on the front page of the Daily Post on Saturday afternoon. As a result, I removed him from my online list of endorsers and asked him to remove my sign from his yard.
I was shocked and disappointed to learn that Job would engage in such activity.
I have known him for three decades. Our daughters were close friends in elementary school. He runs a small business.
He is a dedicated activist, working for immigrant rights, tenant rights, and social justice. He should have known better.
Finally, it should be no surprise that John Inks and I disagree on many issues. But we have always gotten along personally. We challenge each other respectfully. I expect those who support what I am doing as Councilmember/Mayor and who support my re-election campaign to treat him with respect and to act in accordance with the democratic principles that make America great.

Hey Joe. Appreciate your enthusiasm. But the answer to candidates and signs and flyers and mailers with which we disagree is MORE SPEECH - campaigning for others or on your own. As to the charges, the police should have cited him under the ordinance 3.26 and 3.27) - not petty theft and misdemeanor "vandalism." But whatever. Obviously, no candidates put him up to it. Time to move on. There is still an election underway.

Lenny, while I appreciate your public "de-nouncement" of Job's behavior your stance and all that you stand for quite frankly encourages his kind of behaviour. Groups who think they can DEMAND things from others, people who think they can MAKE others give them what they want and what they think 'they're due'.

What happened to personal responsibility? What happened to personal culpability? What happened to the great American spirit of self-reliance? You and your politics are destroying it by encouraging people that it's their RIGHT to DEMAND to be able to live wherever they want to. By encouraging people to break laws (illegal immigration, living in RVs on the streets etc). It sickens me. It breaks my heart to see our wonderful country being torn and broken and taken down by this ridiculous, self-serving ideology.

We used to be a country of strong-willed, independent people. We're being politicized into a country of wanna-haves, I can't haves, I-should-get-what-I-want. Sad.

@Lenny Siegel,

I find your statements quite amusing, you will always put your political face on when you need to get support for what you do, and now you need to distance yourself from your friend Job Lopez.

But reality is quite different from what you say publicly and how you act.

Take for example some of your repeated jabs while on the dais against your fellow council members. How often have you, say for instance, made jabs against John McAlister? I remember many.

Or how about your jab as mayor, while sitting on the dais, slamming Toms Means by saying that "you do not want to have kids educated in Thousand Oaks but you want them educated here"

How often have you used the Voice reporters to have them contact another news media, like the New York Times, to have them come to our city so that they could play up a story that you need to further your agenda on the city council? I spoke with that NYT reporter 3 1/2 years ago, he told me all about it.

What Job Lopez did, IMO, is exactly what you want people like him to do, but to not get caught. Why, because I see how you how you treat others and it is not nice, like council members, members of our community who are business owners speaking up at a council meeting, denying things that you said like "wanting to turn Mtn.View into the South Bay city of Berkley then denying you said it when it is on video tape. You have a total disregard and dislike to anyone who does not agree with you. Why are you continuing to push for more RV parking in our city? The only people who support it are you, Job, Showalther, Rameriz, MVTC and the RV residents themselves. You just enjoy giving the middle finger to all other residents in our city who are fed up with this and want it resolved not expanded.

Unfortunately you are the first truly activist council member we had here in many decades, I hope you will be voted out in 2 weeks. Our city and its residents deserve much better.

It seems to me that the elephant in the room is the issue of Dirty Tricks and who started it. As I understand it, John Inks not only supports efforts against Measure V but he also funded signature gathering. It was widely reported that these paid signature gathers were themselves using dirty tricks. They were telling people to sign to SUPPORT rent control. So I can have compassion and see how someone could resort to fighting fire with fire, Dirty Tricks.

Just my observation. Look into it yourself.

Well, I never heard of the guy before and never recall seeing any of the letters to the editor in the Daily Post. The picture there does not look that similar to the video. I do think the signature gathering rules should not allow the people doing the collecting to lie to the signers. I think this is a much worse dirty trick than defacing signs. Also, I recognize that neither Inks nor this guy may have been the only perpetrators of the respective actions. I saw an awful lot of defaced signs around. I doubt one person did all of them. In particular I saw one on El Monte which was defaced by cutting a large square out of it. This one is on an apartment building with many tenants. I don't think landlords should be allowed to post political signs on multi-tenant buildings. It seems dishonest to me by itself. I have noticed signs on other rented units too, but not with so many units as the one on El Monte where it was defaced. I bet that was a different defacer.

I believe you when you say Job is a good man based on his past, but let's not call this "...a bad decision". This was a series of planned actions as the defacing of signs occurred over multiple instances. He had plenty of time to think about his behavior and still resorted to somewhat juvenile and anti-democratic antics.

Just calling it as I see it...

Yes there is an elephant in the room and its people like "mvresident2003" and "Mike_" who personify it - that elephant is called greed and selfishness and its perpetrated by white people for the last 400 years and its reaching quite the new zenith here in Sillycon Valley. This country has only ever been a "country of strong-willed, independent people" if those people are white, male and wealthy. This country was colonized by white wealthy men who killed people, enslaved people and stole land for their own gains in wealth. Everyone else has been restricted in how they can live their lives in this country due to 400 years of racism, genocide, misogyny and oppression.

Mountain View is under attack by greedy landlords, conservatives, and libertarians and John Inks is central to those attacks by initiating the Sneaky Repeal petition to eliminate rent control. He will also attack the RV dwellers if elected. My heart goes out to the people who are truly suffering in Mountain View and the greater Silicon Valley area because of local governments who have put greedy corporations, developers, and landlords before people for the last decade and longer which has been a huge cause of the current housing crisis. It’s understandable that some people might take actions that are outside of so-called “democratic practices” which in reality only favor the wealthy over everyone else. Job Lopez will always be a brave activist in my mind trying to truly help people who need support even if people don’t agree with his peaceful actions of protest.

ah yes, the typical response, make it about race and greed. Are you saying only white male wealthy can be strong and independent? That’s ridiculous and a typical “woe is me” liberal stance. Our country and democracy has created more opportunity for success to all people than any other in history.

Job is a brave activist? By defacing signs? This is what you hold
To a high standard? Typical.

I hope like hell Inks attacks the RV issue. It needs to be handled. Vote yes for Inks.

No I'm saying that white wealthy men are not "strong and independent" - that is just code for being greedy and selfish. This whole country was stolen to provide wealth to white men and that is exactly how this country operates. We don't have a democracy and we never have. We have America, Inc. - one big corporate country designed and operated for the wealthy white males who sit at the top. Yes Job is a brave activist and Inks is just another greedy cog in the corporate machine that is destroying not only this country but the very existence of life on this planet. And shame on you for wanting people living in RVs to be attacked!

I hope they throw the book at that anti-American leftist lawbreaker, Job.

Not only did he vandalize signs, he actually trespassed on a person's property to spraypaint on their front door.... you can clearly see his creepy face despite the sunglasses and hoodie.

In a less politically-correct era, he could have suffered substantial pain and possibly worse from a righteous homeowner. He should count his lucky stars.

#Lenny Siegel now of course disavows his close support for such activists, now that the light has been shown on the vermin.

Judging from the responses and "likes", there are a lot more reasonable citizens in Mountain View than the leftist and neo-progressive (read marxist) wreckers would have you believe.

My advice is to get out the vote... and vote NO on Siegel, Ramirez and Showalter (who all support to various degrees the continued blight of the trashy RVs on our community streets)... out out out with the rats !

For anyone saying those who think badly of Job don't know him, and that this was a "bad decision", I say hogwash!

You know a person not by what they say, but by what they do. This was not "a" bad decision. It was a LOT of bad decisions. He CHOSE to do this, repeatedly, in lots of locations, over weeks, and by trespassing on people's personal property as well. Over and over again. He knew what he was doing every time. He knew what he was doing when he wrote "F.U." on those signs as well. He has no respect for the law or the electoral process. To him apparently, we should all heed his activism, but anyone who disagrees needs to be silenced. Had he run for office he would be screaming about oppression if it was done to him.

Plus this is just the only thing that we know he has been caught for. What else has he done in the name of his activism that is just as bad that he was just never caught for.

@Mayor Siegel - Please explain why your full page campaign ad in last week’s MV Voice had NO mention of The RV Dwellers, Safe Parking Proposal or your desire for a “sanctioned encampment” on city land? It is well known that you are passionate about this issue, but no mention at all? Is affordable housing a euphemism for living on the streets of our city? Or are you downplaying this issue in hopes of being re-elected?

Moderator, please explain why my post was completely deleted? I would like to once again protect myself against the slanderous comment made by @libertarian greed and state that nowhere did I say I wanted RV people attacked. And to imply that was extremely disingenuous and straight out WRONG of @libertarian greed.

If you truly support freedom of speech and freedom of expression, then avoid utilizing the entitled perp’s business and give your $$ to someone who actually respects our community and everyone in it. JL Gardening of Mountain View may be found on popular consumer review sites, let your experience with this business and its principal be known. Interestingly, there are reviews indicating his aggressive behavior and short fuse, so his actions related to Mr. Inks and his supporters are not surprising.

I am shocked that a MV resident would commit these hate crimes. It seems like this is another case of TDS. All this act did is give more publicity to Mr. Inks. Mr. Lopez needs to apologize and reimburse Mr. Inks for damaging his signs. He also needs counseling to deal with his personal issue, since it's clear he is an angry man filled w hate. The PA Post published his letters to them and they reveal an angry man. Let's hope he doesn't pass on his hate to his children.

I am more disappointed than shocked. In any case, he does owe Mr. Inks, the whole city council, and the ENTIRE CITY OF MOUNTAIN VIEW an apology.

It should go without saying that his actions are wrong and certainly not in our city's best interest. In fact, since Inks is using this as a weapon, Mr. Lopez's actions have completely backfired.

Only you know what's in your heart, Mr. Lopez, but what you did was a complete disservice to this election process.

Here the Voice had a second chance before posting this story again, by asking Lenny Siegel if Lopez had done these acts with any knowledge or help from Siegel or staff or his direct supporters of Siegel.

Lopez is Siegel close friend for 30 years years and it would not surprise anyone that they think and talk alike behind closed doors How many other things do you think they talked about, hoping certain things would happen to certain people. Stealing Inks signs, defacing them and writing "F.U." on them is just what he got caught for.

Lenny Siegel has shown from the dais that he can be rude-disrespectful and at times a bully to other council members and to the public who come to speak on an issue and if that goes against Siegel views, he has been known to say verbal insults to people.

Vote Siegel Out.

My humble observation:

You look at the recent bomber suspect in the news. The libertarianists in effect advocate violence, not just protests.

Also Charlottesville, and the violence ant threats made against news people and politicians that are not complying with the authoritarianism of the current administration and the "alt-right-wing" groups.

If you try to compare this "anti-fa" action to those, I would say there is a dramatic difference. It is even interesting that one wants to criticize an “anti-fascist” movement in general.

In any way, I still want to wait for the courts to determine if this individual did this.

I find the "fluorescence” of the video of the persons face questionable. The skin is not natuarally fluorescent. Howaever many materials used in making masks are. I againwant the public to compare the videos of these:

A REAL video of Job Lopez found here (Web Link)

And compare it to this video (Web Link)

Simply put, the resolution of the security video is so poor (most characteristics of the face are not visible i.e. the wrinkles that Job has on his face), the apparent loss of as much as 20 pounds of weight regarding the one on the security video, the apparent significant strength exhibited by the suspect, and the “glow” of the face makes for a possible “reasonable doubt”. Job is over 70 years old, it can be clear that his body strength can be far less than the suspect on the video.

All I am saying is there needs to be more “forensic evidence” than just the video. I think many here are too quick to try to judge the situation.
