SamTrans and Caltrain will offer complimentary service during the evening and early morning hours to help residents and visitors ring in the new year responsibly.
SamTrans buses will run on their regular weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve, with free service beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing until 3 a.m. Fare collection will resume at 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day when buses transition to a Sunday schedule. Riders can plan their trips using the SamTrans website or mobile app, which provides real-time updates and route information.
Caltrain’s new fully electric trains, which debuted in September, will carry their first New Year’s Eve passengers for free starting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. After the fireworks show in San Francisco, additional southbound trains will depart from the city’s 4th and King streets station at 1 a.m., 1:30 a.m. (or when full), and 2 a.m., making all local stops to San Jose Diridon. SF Muni will also provide extra post-fireworks service to Caltrain’s San Francisco Station.
Both agencies encourage riders to use these services to celebrate safely and conveniently.
