Palo Alto police arrested a local man who they said fired a BB gun at another vehicle, shattering its window, during a Dec. 5 road rage incident on San Antonio Road.
Police said the man, who is 20, was involved in an incident that occurred at the intersection of San Antonio and Middlefield roads, near the Mountain View border, shortly before 6:40 p.m. The victim, a man in his 30s, said he was driving south on U.S. Highway 101 when another driver began following him and flashing his lights, according to a news release from the Palo Alto Police Department.
The victim then reportedly exited on San Antonio, drove west and stopped at the Middlefield Road intersection. At that point, the other vehicle pulled up next to him and the man inside it told him to lower his window. When the victim declined to do so, he heard a pop sound just before his rear window shattered. The other car then reportedly sped away from the scene, according to the police.
The ensuing investigation led the police to the home of a local resident, police said. Police arrested him without incident and recovered a BB gun from his vehicle, according to the news release. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and for vandalism, both felonies.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the department’s dispatch center at 650-329-2413 or its tip line at 650-383-8984.
