The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Friday calls for up to 90 percent chances of rain the whole day across the region.
Daytime highs will be mostly in the low 60s on the coast and inland, and high 50s to low 60s around the bay. Overnight lows will be mostly in the low to mid 50s.
Forecasters say rain will increase across the Bay Area and Central Coast on Friday as a wetter weather pattern settles in. Light, isolated showers continued overnight in the North Bay, with a more organized band of moderate rain expected to move through Friday afternoon.
While Friday’s rain is expected to be mostly light, it marks the first round of what forecasters say will be a very wet week.
According to the NWS, the timing of heavier rain has been pushed back by about 12 hours, but expected rainfall totals have increased. Over the next week, most of the region could receive 5 to 10 inches of rain, with higher amounts in the coastal mountains. If those totals materialize, the rainfall would amount to nearly 25% of the area’s average yearly precipitation and could lead to flooding, forecasters say.
Strong winds are also possible through the week, especially from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, when a deep low-pressure system could also bring a chance of thunderstorms.
