Despite it still technically being winter, temperatures in Mountain View and other Bay Area cities are expected to exceed 90 degrees this week, prompting a heat advisory from the National Weather Service and a message from the city of Mountain View highlighting locations where community members can go to cool off.
The formal heat advisory began Monday morning and is expected to end at 8 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.Â
In anticipation of the hot weather, the Mountain View Fire Department is urging residents to keep hydrated, stay in air-conditioned buildings, limit outdoor activities during the hottest times of day, avoid leaving children or pets in cars, and be aware of pavement temperatures while walking dogs.
The following facilities have air conditioning and will be open for residents and visitors seeking shelter from the heat this week:
Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St. The library will be open to the public 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Friday.
Police Services Fire Administration Building, 1000 Villa St. The lobby will be open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Mountain View Community Center, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave. The lobby will be open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
