In preparation for a nationwide search, trustees of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District are asking the public what qualities they would like to see in a new chancellor.

Martha Kanter, the chancellor since 2003, is awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate for the post of Undersecretary of Education.

Community members are being invited to join students, faculty and staff in developing a profile of the district’s next chancellor, which college district trustees hope to name by January.

Open forums will be held at Foothill and De Anza during the first week of June. At Foothill, located at 12345 S. El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills, the forums will be on Wednesday, June 3, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the board room at the district office and from noon to 1 p.m. in the Hearthside Lounge in the Campus Center; and on Thursday, June 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in the board room of the district office.

A 14-member search committee of students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members will undertake the search. The committee will recommend finalists to the district’s Board of Trustees in November, and those finalists will be invited to visit the district before trustees make their final selection. Two community members will be selected to serve on the search committee.

Updates on the search are available at www.fhda.edu. Comments for the profile also are also being accepted by e-mail at chancellorprofile@fhda.edu. The deadline for response is midnight Friday, June 5.
