Mountain View police say they found more than three dozen counterfeit iPod Nanos in the car of a Los Angeles couple pulled over for a traffic stop.

Spokesperson Liz Wylie said Leonardo Morales and his wife Luzmaria Resendez were pulled over at around 6 p.m. on Sept. 18 for having illegally tinted windows on their car. It was soon discovered that Morales was an unlicensed driver, she said, and after arresting him officers allegedly discovered containers full of a total of 37 iPods, all with the same serial number.

After investigating further, police found that the Los Angeles and San Francisco police departments and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department have all come across the counterfeit iPods, Wylie said. Mountain View police are working with Apple, Inc.’s security division in following up with the case.

Both Morales and Resendez were charged with selling counterfeit goods.
