Grammy Award-winning composer, DJ and musician Mason Bates of Mercury Soul, in collaboration with local youth and community artists, curated the “ILLUMINATED!” fundraising gala for EPACenter. East Palo Alto nonprofit creative youth development organization EPACenter is hosting its first fundraising gala and it promises to be quite the bright moment this weekend. That’s because “ILLUMINATED!” is the theme of the event, which is curated by composer, musician and DJ Mason Bates. Bates is the composer of the Grammy-winning opera “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,” performed last season at San Francisco Opera, and he’s also the artistic director the nonprofit music organization Mercury Soul. Bates collaborated with local youth and community artists for an evening of immersive art, experimental visual arts, live music and electronica DJs to celebrate EPACenter. Guests can also enjoy multicultural bites and drinks from McCall’s Catering.

EPACenter, pronounced “epicenter,” was in the works for many years and officially opened in 2022. The center offers classes, internships and resources for youth ages 6 to 25 in a variety of artistic disciplines, from film to music to design.

ILLUMINATED! takes place June 1, 7-9:30 p.m., at EPACenter, 1950 East Bay Road, East Palo Alto. Tickets are $1,000-$5,000. For more information, visit my.onecause.com.
