A fire broke out at a house on Castro Street yesterday afternoon that damaged an attached garage but resulted in no injuries, according to the Mountain View Fire Department.

Dispatchers received a call at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, July 7, reporting a house fire on the 1100 block of Castro Street. When fire crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the garage of a single-family home, according to a statement from the fire department.

Firefighters quickly put out the blaze to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the house, the fire department said. They then cut open the walls of the garage to make sure the fire was fully extinguished, officials said.

Three adults and one child evacuated the house before firefighters arrived and were allowed to return to their home after the fire was put out. There were no reported injuries, officials said.

The Mountain View Police Department managed traffic for two hours on Castro Street while fire crews were on scene, according to the statement.

Officials have determined that the origin of the fire was from lint buildup in a metal exhaust pipe located between the dryer and exterior of the house. The estimated damage to the contents and structure was $50,000, according to the fire department.

Another fire from lint buildup in an overheated clothes dryer occurred last October at an apartment complex on the 800 block of Rengstorff Avenue.
